
THE Nanaimo Women’s Centre Runs a number of successful program for women and their families. Our aim is to offer programs and multi-session workshops that enhance women’s independence, self-esteem, communication skills, literacy, and employability. Through workshops and continued programming, we provide access to formal business ware, social reintegration activities, literacy upgrading, preparation for job interviews, computer skills, professional counseling and peer support.
The Nanaimo Women’s Resources Society is an agency committed to respectful and inclusive participation regardless of, age, ethnicity, socio-economic background, religion, and sexual orientation.

Drop–In Program Services
We provide a valuable resource for women in our community: (all services provided free of charge to our clients)
- Supportive, Healthy, Comfortable & Safe environment
- Facilitation of women supporting and connecting with other women
- Broad range of information & resources about women’s issues (not limited to):
- legal resources for family law, harassment, etc.

Building Bridges: Goals, Decisions, Action Program
Women––Put your dreams into action. Learn how to set goals, make positive decisions, and develop a personal action plan.
The Building Bridges: Goals, Decisions, Action Program will help women develop goal-setting, decision-making, and practical action skills for bridging to more formal employment and educational programs. The program will encourage participants to make better decisions by understanding how planning and prioritizing contribute to success.Program Objectives
- Build self–esteem and encourage initiative
- Develop participation skills
- Build trust between facilitator, individual participants, and group
- Establish positive communication skills
- Understand the power and importance of goal–setting and decision–making
- Support participants in setting goals and achieving objectives
- Identify key obstacles and challenges to achieving goals
- Develop individualized action plans
- Take first steps to implementing action plans
- Learn about available community resources and support
- Understand value of peer mentoring
- Identify skills, strengths, and weaknesses
This is a free, 10–week adult education workshop series. Join us in a positive, safe surrounding for a dynamic experience that includes peer mentoring and one–on–one follow–up support. To register, call 753–0633. Limited space – must pre–register.
Cooking Out of the Box

The program is free to participants and encouages the use of fresh fruits and vegetables in a healthy diet. At each 2 hour session, 3 to 4 recipes are prepared using the contents of the Good Food Box, which varies month to month. The Community Kitchens facilitator chooses the recipes, purchases a Good Food Box and the extra food needed to prepare the recipes. The session ends with a shared meal, group discussion and clean up. Participants recieve copies of the recipes and extra food is divided among the clients to take home.
16 Step
· The Nanaimo Women’s Centre is offering a 16 step group for women healing from addiction and co-dependency. All women welcome!!
